Compare videos online
The easiest way to compare two videos.
Open Compare Video in the workspace
The comparison runs on the workspace canvas, where the two upload slots, the metrics tables and the frame view sit together on one screen.
Why compare two videos
A quality score you can read
The comparison returns VMAF, a metric that fuses several image quality measures into a single number, so the difference between the two videos is measured instead of guessed.
Frames and file details side by side
The report puts both videos in their own column: name, size, dimensions, duration, file type and codecs, plus the frames where the two differ.
Nothing to install
The comparison runs on our servers over an encrypted connection. There is no software to download and no account needed to use it.
What the comparison report contains
The report opens with a file details table. Name, size, dimensions, duration, file type, video codec and audio codec, one column per video, so a mismatch in the container or the codec is visible before you read a single metric.
Underneath sits the quality metrics table. Every metric the job returned gets a row, and each row carries its harmonic mean, mean, maximum and minimum. VMAF is the headline figure; the ADM, motion and VIF components it is built from are listed beside it, which is where you look to see what kind of difference the score is reacting to.
The last section is the frame comparison: the difference frames the job produced, drawn from the videos themselves rather than from a summary.
The finished report exports as a single PDF, tables and frames included.
What you can upload
MP4 is what most people bring, and MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI, FLV, WMV, M4V and OGG are accepted the same way. The first video is the reference; the second is the one scored against it.
The two videos do have to share a resolution. The comparison lines the pictures up frame by frame, so a 1080p file and a 720p one cannot be measured against each other.
Each of the two can come from a different place: your computer, a link you paste, or Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive.
Both videos must have the same resolution.
About the video comparison
The Compare Videos tool helps you calculate video quality using existing metrics, combined by machine learning into a single score. Simply upload the two videos you want to compare to run a quick video quality comparison.
Note: the videos you want to compare must have the same resolution.
Free to use, and private by default
Comparing two videos is free and needs no account. Every upload and download runs over an encrypted connection, so your footage cannot be read on the way.
Processing is fully automated: nobody watches your videos and they are never used to train AI models. You keep the copyright and the ownership of both videos you upload.
The servers that do the work are in Europe.
Key features
Two upload slots
The reference video goes in the first slot, the one you are measuring against it in the second.
The whole report on the canvas
File details, quality metrics and the frame comparison open in the workspace file view instead of as a download.
Export to PDF
Save the report as one PDF, with both tables and every difference frame in it.
Next to every other video app
Compress, resize, cut or convert the file you just measured without leaving the canvas.

Questions about comparing video
How are the two videos compared?
Both videos are decoded and the second one is scored against the first with VMAF, a metric that machine learning fuses out of several image quality measures. What comes back is a table of metrics and a set of difference frames, not a verdict.
Do the two videos need the same resolution?
Yes. The comparison lines the two pictures up frame by frame, so both files have to have the same resolution. A 1080p video and a 720p one cannot be measured against each other.
What does the VMAF figure mean?
VMAF is the fused metric the comparison reports, and the higher it is the closer the second video sits to the reference. The table shows its harmonic mean, mean, maximum and minimum, and lists the ADM, motion and VIF components underneath so you can see which of them the score is reacting to.
Which video formats can I compare?
MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI, FLV, WMV, M4V and OGG. The two videos do not have to arrive from the same place either: one can be a local file and the other a link or a file from cloud storage.
Can I keep the report?
Yes. The report exports as a PDF with the file details, the full metrics table and the frame comparison in it.
Is there a file size limit?
There is a limit on how large an upload can be, and it is higher on a paid plan than for a visitor without an account. The pricing page lists the current figures.
